Notes and observations for setting up and maintaining systems.

3.16 Desktop setup

With the release of 3.16.0 came new tools, setup-desktop and setup-user, which prepare the system to be used graphically and by a non-root user. I noticed some weirdness the first time I tried, so I'm documenting my efforts to reproduce here in an attempt to aid eventual bug reports.

Note about missing packages

Some Asterisk modules are unavailable due to the lack of available packages on Alpine Linux. These currently are:

	* beanstalk - Available as a package, but I'm not installing it :)

This page documents the modifications I've been making to Decker and to lil/lilt, the programming/scripting language it has.

Patches

Patch to change the prompt to '%>' and make it return a newline on exit

C implementation notes

It seems like the norm is for interfaces to be defined in dom.h within the constants block. In order to avoid dom.h containing all the functionality implementations, it uses forward refs.

Building and using on Alpine Linux

The alpine linux packages do not (at least on current 3.16) seem to include the openmp variants, so the first step is to manually build fftw using the apkbuild as a guide

Rancher Desktop

Mounts not working

This can happen when you're mounting from somewhere outside of /Users/$UNAME or /tmp/rancher-desktop. It may manifest as mounts showing up as empty directories/folders when they should be files, or filled folders. MySQL containers will exit with the message

# SMETS

Short for Smart Metering Equipment Technical Specifications, SMETS exists in a few variants: SMETS1, SMETS1+, and SMETS2.

## Glossary

### SMETS1

The first variant of smart meters, SMETS1 is notable for not being as interoperable between energy providers as other variants. SMETS1 meters can be upgraded to SMETS1+.

This page serves to document some information I found regarding the UK power grid and the data available in relation to it.

Data providers

The national grid itself provides some real-time (ish; delayed by 2 minutes) data, but there is additional data provided by other parties.
